A Mommy Cries…

No, this isn’t one of those posts.

This is one of those me posts.

Most of you know that I have two little ones.

Well, they aren’t so little anymore.  I just took Future Cardiologist shoe shopping and I realized that we now are within half a size of eachother as far as shoes go.  Considering the fact that I’m 6’1″, that’s pretty significant.

He’s ten, folks.  TEN.

This is what the little guy looks today. He’s the one on the right in case you were wondering…

This is what he looked like around the time I started blogging.

The little princess in my life, She Who Rules, is now five.  She’s starting kindergarten in September.  Today, I signed her up for Safe-T-City.  Safe-T-City is a program that the Toledo Police Department puts on for kids getting ready to start school… Basically they teach them about strangers and in general how to keep themselves safe.

She might trade her brother for a cupcake, but she wont be taking candy from a stranger.

She Who Rules, back when I started blogging.

Note the fact that her t-shirt, even back then, still spells out her…*cough*appreciation for her brother.

So yes, I had myself a little cry.

My babies… they’re growing up.  And if anyone out there has a way to stop this from happening, I’d appreciate it if you’d share it with me.

Your little guy looks so much like me when I was that age (though he has a better haircut), it’s kinda scary.

Also, less little man in the picture above looks kinda like Lee Dewyze.

I have several children, aged 1 up to 15.

No matter how hard or how long you press down on their heads, they grow anyway.

My teenage daughter is going… well….. teenage on me. Wow.

Still, though I often reminisce like you, especially when I look at pictures from back then and long for my big girl to be four years old again so she can ask me – one more time – to read her a story, I have to admit, it is pretty dang cool to have sophisticated discussions with her, and have her relate back in more “grown-up” ways.

The various boys, aged 3-11, are coming along nicely, followed by the bookend baby girl who is drop-dead adorable (and knows it!). It’s magic, isn’t it, watching them become who they will be. I’m glad I get to watch it happen.

To sum up, it is pretty cool having older kids, too. Different. But cool.

(Just don’t talk to me about wedding plans! That is just too damn close.)

Wow! I haven’t been reading your blog for that long, but even I’ve noticed how much they’ve changed since I started reading. FC looks so mature and confident and SWR is as cute as ever!

Epi, I don’t know what to tell you because I am having my own mommy moments- the oldest gets his learner’s permit in another month and will be a sophomore this year- the youngest starts kindergarten in the fall- what can I say? I just dry my tears and go on- seems to be about all I can do! Hang in there!

I can relate, Epi! My little one will be 7 this summer… and I remember the day she was born like yesterday. They grow up *so* fast, and there are days I wish she was still the cuddly toddler she was. Now she is independent as ever, and those cuddle times are few and far between. But then I look on the bright side and realize that every stage is filled with new adventures so I try to just look forward to every day I have with her. Hang in there!
