Oh Dear God.
What have I gotten myself in to.
In class tonight:
Instructor: “Okay, so let’s say that a Nurse issues you the task of getting a resident ready for lunch. The resident isn’t your patient, and you were getting ready to walk out the door for lunch yourself. What do you do? Do you refuse the task?”
Extremely young student: “OH HELL NAW, I got to eat my lunch! It’s not even my patient!”
Instructor: *blank stare*
Epi: “That’s not going to make you very popular.”
Extremely young student: “What? It’s LUNCH!” (She pauses when she realizes the class has gone silent.) “Well shoot, I don’t care. I gotta eat. Shooot… Not even my patient.” (She starts mumbling under her breath)
Instructor: “Someone else want to answer this one?”
The class is only three weeks long. I fear for my sanity already.

Wait a minute… did I miss something here? You are going to the dark side?
It’s like this. Really. I just kinda fly solo when I’m at work because I really can’t ever expect the other aide to help me with a damn thing.
However, you learn quickly how to do stuff on your own.
Good luck to you.
Wow….she sounds like most of the CNA’s I’ve ever encountered
Scary. She’s burned out, and she hasn’t even started yet.
You are so funny!
already fearing for your sanity! I felt the same way this week after my first class- but after doing my homework- I discovered something- I still remembered a tee tiny tiny tiny bit from the Dark Ages-
Your classmate is just a classic sign of the times, especially if she is from the younger generation- its the “ME FIRST GENERATION-to h— with customer/patient care, etc I am only in it for me!” Unfortunately, she will either suck up to the instructor and pass with flying colors- God Help us all- or she will bomb. Hang in there
It’s been 25 years since I’ve done that kind of work. I would politely tell the nurse that Mrs. Soandso has been assigned to CNA B and I’d be happy to pass this information on to CNA B. I’d also inform said nurse that she should have known that and ask what her reason was for asking me, knowing Mrs. Soandso wasn’t my patient. If she had a valid reason i’d reverse my position and comply.
In the world of CNAs doing other peoples work just doesn’t happen very often and if you let yourself get bullied into doing other people’s (slackers) work it will never end. That’s why my wife left the nursing home job 10 years ago to do home health care.
Aren’t “child” students wonderful???
Just use your superior work ethic, submit to the lobotomy, and use the proper Crayolas on your tests, and you’ll be a CNA in no time.
My CNA instructor would have thrown them out of the class. Without a refund!
Wait…
A few posts ago weren’t we discussing a similar subject?
We already know damn well what you’ll do!
(And since Karma truly exists, there will be a reward for making that decision sometime later.)
Deep breath…
Exhale.
Oh my. I thought that I had just landed myself in a class with particularly …errrm…..uhh…challenged students. There were only 3 of us who had an IQ over 100, and one of those 3 was the teacher.
I once spent 2 hours trying to explain to a bunch of them why, when you count a pulse for 30 seconds, you have to multiply the result by 2 to get the minute rate. I’d go through the whole thing and they’d nod and smile like they were getting it and then say ‘But why I gots to times it by TWO?’
I’d never felt like bashing my own head against a brick wall quite so much before – and haven’t since.
Hang in there, and call me to vent if you need to!
Braden,
Yeah, I’ve joined the dark side… It’s a step. That’s all I can say. One more thing… WordPress somehow decided that your comment was spam. I didn’t catch it until today. Weird, eh?
NinjaMedic,
GIRL! I see that in my future. I really do, and it’s sad.
Oh Dear God…does anyone wonder why I fear my sons putting me in a home? I’m bound to have nightmares about this. Again.
Sandi
Wow.
And to think that person has a desire to ‘care’ for others.
Whew.
Even completely ignoring the resident’s needs, ignoring and/or mouthing off to your de facto boss never really works well.
I’m assuming that this person hasn’t ever held down a job outside of Mickey D’s.
